How IMRaD is Different

The greatest difference between IMRaD writing and the writings that I have been doing before is research. Despite conducting an interview in one of my previous assignments, as a primary source, the result I got is pretty brief and general. While in IMRaD, the research you conduct has to be way more specific with data presentation. This type of primary research is starting from scratch and it is unlike an interview because all of the thesis has to come from whether the data was accurate.

The structure of IMRaD is way more specific than any other writing. This goes from what needs to go in the first sentence all the way to where the graphs and tables need to go. All the details are so many levels higher than any other writings I have done before. However, there are some similarities with APA format, such as the abstract and references.

The tone is way more technical in IMRaD than an argument based paper. Results and data speak for themselves in the IMRaD paper and it is harder to give biased opinions. While on the other hand, there is more space to use rhetorical tools to persuade the audience in the argument based paper. Also, IMRaD focuses on one main type of research while in argument papers you can use multiple types of research to add to your overall opinion on your subject.
